Suddeth Lures Rattlin' Big Boss Hawg
The Suddeth Rattlin' Big Boss Hawg was based on a hand-carved crankbait by Earl Suddeth, a legendary crankbait maker from Georgia. This flatsided crankbait was a staple in the Southeast and is still sought after by those who fished it--and it gets bit! It weighs a 3/8 oz, is 3 1/4" long and will dive to 3-6 ft depending on your line size. Some people like to throw it on a baitcaster, and others prefer a spinning rod.
The Big Boss Hawg comes in a floating and sinking version—and don't sleep on the sinker (it is a super slow sink) which is especially deadly during the Spring. If you know me, you know that I love to throw a suspending or slow sinking crankbait in the Spring! My favorite technique is to "worm" a crankbait through cover by pulling the bait by sweeping the rod tip back, pausing, reeling up the slack and then pulling again. With a slow sink or suspending crankbait, I pause when I "hit" a piece of cover and with a slow sink or suspending crankbait, it stays in the strike zone! Bass can't handle it.
Suddeth baits are not widely available and so the fish haven't seen them much. These baits are made out of a floating dense foam with a single subtle ticker which makes them behave like balsa. Nice plug for the crankbait collector or fisherman. Limited quantities
